Here is a quick post on my homemade socket organizer. The tool set I bought was in a plastic case which worked well when I didn’t have a tool chest. When I finally had drawers to hold my sockets I needed a way to keep them organized. I didn’t want to just throw them into a drawer.
Not wanting to spend too much money I picket up a box of metal socket rails at the local tool store. They included rails for 1/2 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/4 inch drive sockets. The rails came in a pack of 3 so I had to buy 3 boxes for all the sockets I own.
I then used a piece of scrap wood off a shelf that was getting tossed to use as the base of my homemade socket organizer. I put my sockets on the rails the way I wanted them laid out before attaching them to the wood base. I had to make sure the socket rails weren’t too close together or the sockets won’t fit.
After I was satisfied with the layout I screwed the rails to the wood with short wood screws.

The finished product:

For a homemade socket organizer it doesn’t look half bad and it does it’s job. I can easily find the size socket I need without digging through a mess.
